GET TO KNOW ELIZABETH
A town with an official population of just 1,125, Elizabeth offers a small town feel without being too remote. Just 43 miles south of Denver and 48 miles north of Colorado Springs, residents of Elizabeth have easy access to the “big city.”
Initially settled in 1855 by the Weber Brothers on the bank of Running Creek, a small gold rush followed in 1858 but few visitors settled. After the original settlement camp was flooded, the town of Russelville, now known as Elizabeth, moved to its present location. Within a few years opportunities in logging, farming, cattle ranching and dairy farming brought permanent settlers to the town. Today, Elbert County is one of the fastest growing counties in Colorado. If you are looking for a horse property, more land or a break from the fast pace of the city, Elizabeth could be the town for you. Elizabeth boasts its own school district, providing kids with an excellent education. Frequent events, including holiday celebrations, farmers markets and concerts create a close-knit community. A historic downtown district offers a quaint shopping experience. Surrounding open space gives residents a chance to explore and adventure. A true taste of the West! |
